To investigate the shade tolerance of Zoysia grasses, the present experiments were conducted. Zoysia grasses were grown under four levels of light intensity; 100, 75, 50 and 25% of incident light. The plant height of grasses grown under the low light conditions was remarkably longer than that of the full light conditions, whereas leaf width, inter node length of rhizome, rhizome length, and dry weight of the grasses were decreased under the sha de conditions. Emerald Zoysia grass showed some tolerance to shading, while the other Zoysia grass did not.
